Inside Coming Up Taller

Learn more about community arts and humanities programs for children and what the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities is doing to advance them.

• The Coming Up Taller Awards. This is an initiative with the Institute of Museum and Library Services, National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities to showcase cultural excellence and enhance the availability of out-of-school arts and humanities programs to children.
  
  
• Coming Up Taller: Arts and Humanities Programs for Children and Youth At Risk. This report describes how local artists and educators help turn around the lives of young people and identifies the common characteristics of effective arts and humanities programs. Short descriptions and contact information are included for over 200 after-school, weekend and summer programs.
  
  
• Additional Program Profiles. This page contains descriptions of after-school, summer and weekend arts and humanities programs for young people we have discovered since the original Coming Up Taller (1996) report. Many of these programs are semifinalists for the Coming Up Taller Awards.
